When you are going to be having your dream home built just for you, the last thing you want to do is to have that home put on land that isn't going to offer you everything that you want. Make sure the land has no concerns like being in a flood zone. Find an area that gives you views you will get plenty of enjoyment out of and make sure any flaws it has you don't like are fixable.

Make sure you put enough thought into choosing the right spot for your home. Keep in mind that while the land may seem as if the obvious area is where a home should go, make sure there isn't a better area for it with some extra work. That clearing on the property that looks like it's ready to have something built right on it may actually make a fantastic huge yard you can enjoy views of if you instead have a hill graded and opt to have the house built on the higher ground. This can also be great if you are going to have kids playing in the yard because you can peek right down on them and see the whole yard.

Have your home built with the future in mind

It's going to be much easier for you to have the perfect home built all at once than it will be for you to have extra rooms or bathrooms added on in the future. While it can be done, it will require future construction work to be done on your home, while you are living there and after everything that you own is all situated in the house. This means you are looking at being put out and moving things around at a later date. So if you know you plan on having a big family, then you may just want to go ahead and have all those rooms built during the initial building.
