There can be a lot of determining factors in the decision as you choose your next rental apartment. You might look for a detached rental apartment with a fenced-in backyard or a rental apartment with a balcony where the landlord will handle all yard maintenance and snow removal. Here are some recommendations to help you select the next apartment home you choose to rent.

Rental Neighbors

An important detail in your rental selection can be the location and proximity of any neighbors in the area. Some apartments have a nice yard. This can be a benefit if you prefer to have privacy and fewer close neighbors so you can play your music at a higher volume or jump rope in your living room, not having to worry as much about your neighbors being disturbed from it.

However, you can opt for an apartment that shares one or more walls with your neighbors. This type of rental situation can be cost-effective to allow you to save with a lower-cost rent. And you can also benefit from a shared heating situation when you share common walls. But, if you have small children or pets who might be noisy upon the floor for any downstairs neighbors, take this fact into consideration when you choose a rental unit that shares walls.

Parking Situation

Another item to consider in your rental search is the availability of parking in your potential rental apartment. Some rental properties have an assigned parking space that is reserved for you day and night. Other rental apartments might have a select number of spaces available for you to share with other tenants.

You might not have a parking slot available for you to use, but you may have to pay for a space at a nearby parking garage. Keep this in mind and be sure you add it to your budget and rental costs. Or you may need to look for street-side parking along the street nearest to your rental unit. Talk to your landlord before signing your rental agreement to make sure you understand the parking situation

Home Amenities

The types of amenities and features in your rental apartment can make up a big part of your decision. As you tour through a potential rental apartment, look for features, such as ceiling fans, a microwave, a dishwasher, and laundry hook-ups.
